Culture on the Road
Commuting between Alexandria and Cairo is something I do around four times per month. The thing is with this commute is how much details of the Egyptian culture it holds; and due to the fact the we take this road as a travelling passage, we never come to notice the details of the Egyptian community that are manifested through the smallest parts of the road, the cars, the signs and even the streets of the city as one passes through them.
The first set of photos captures a number of professions that are a part of the Egyptian informal economy and a part that cannot be detached from the Egyptian street’s reality. The second set shows the desert road between Cairo and Alexandria; this road holds so many details of the Egyptian community, such as the widening socio-economic gap in the community, the growing influence of capitalism, the cultural style of Egyptians and so much more.
